Who We Are

Hi, I'm Michelle Allen, I'm a Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator here in Michigan.  My family, (husband Scott, son Rob and daughter Alex) and I moved to the farm in 1999. We brought with us one little dog, our dog Pepper.  Shortly after moving here our eldest daughter Shannon moved home, with her she brought a kitten and.....a baby raccoon.  So it began.

First we needed to find a vet for the newest arrival, well that turned out to be harder than we thought, apparently having a raccoon in our possesion was illegal!  So, after many, many phone calls, we located a wildlife rehabilitator that would help us out.  She agreed to get the raccoon his shots, but we had to agree to raise him and get him released.  I signed up as a sub-permittee under her license with the Department of Natural Resources here in Michigan, and we went about figuring out what to do to get this little guy grown and released into the wild.  Well that seemed to go okay, but, as I soon found out, as a sub-permittee, there would be many more animals arriving for care.  I have always had a way with animals, but even so, this was definitely a learning experience!

Time passed, as it does, and our "one little dog" seemed to multiply into a whole array of creatures.  We were taking in the wildlife that I started to tell you about, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, deer, woodchucks, minks, birds, fox, coyote, well, you just name it, it has probably been here, and then, we were called upon to take in some not so wild animals.  We've had many goats, geese, ducks, chickens and rabbits dropped off here, and more than a few dogs and cats found their way through our doors.  There have been turtles, iguanas, sugar gliders, and snakes too.  We had decided to get some chickens and milk goats of our own, so it was starting to look like a 4h farm for sure.  Then the day arrived where we were called upon to provide an emergency home for a horse, then another, and another...and so on...so here we are today..a full blown animal rescue.

We have been taking in, releasing and placing animals for almost ten years now.  Over those years we have had almost 1000 wild animals pass through here.  I have had my own license from the Michigan DNR for almost 8 years now.  Most of the costs have come out of our own pockets, but we have had a few donations over the years from some wonderful people.  The State of Michigan does not compensate rehabilitators for their service, but the reward is seeing the animals live the life they were intended for.

We have achieved our goal to become a tax deductible 501(c)3 charity, thank you to all of you that donated and helped to make it possible!
